Everything appeared to be going so well for Houston. The Texans were bossing around the once-mighty Patriots, 22 -9. Davis Mills was dealing like Tom Brady crossed with Joe Montana. And after that … then things went sideways.
Facing a 4th-and-2 by themselves 36, Houston pulled a double-reverse that didn’t trick anybody however the Texans themselves. Terrence Brooks entered movement and lined up behind the center like he will take the grab close. As New England’s defense came hurrying towards the line, Johnson hung back for the regular punt. Odd choice, however OK. It actually got strange.
Johnson punted the ball far too low, dinging straight off the back of Brooks’s helmet. The ball spun right out of bounds, providing New England the ball deep in Texans area.
In days past, that would have been an ensured 7 points. These aren’t days past for New England, and the Patriots might just handle to move the ball 3 backyards on 3 downs. Nick Folk came in for the basket, and unlike recently versus Tampa Bay, he didn’t miss out on. The Texans still held a 10- point lead, however they needed to be thanking the football gods that mess of a play didn’t go much even worse.
